Whether you are looking for history, the arts, a beautiful landscape or a fun day out with the family there is never a shortage of things to do near Swinfen Hall.

The historic 18th century city of Lichfield is ten minutes away by car and boasts some fabulous architecture. The 800 year old Lichfield Cathedral has a fascinating history and is currently home to a long-standing display of Staffordshire Hoard treasure, including stunning replicas of the pectoral cross and Biblical Inscription Strip. Lichfield is also home to the Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum (England’s great man of letters and wit and the complier of the first dictionary), Erasmus Darwin House (the Georgian home of the grandfather of Charles Darwin) and the Lichfield Garrick Theatre.

Birmingham City Centre is only thirty minutes away and is one of Europe’s most vibrant cities with a generous selection of music, arts, entertainment and shopping.

The NEC (National Exhibition Centre) is also within half an hour and is home to events such as the Good Food Show, Clothes Show Live, The Horse of the Year Show and Crufts. For a list of current events please have a look at


The unspoilt Staffordshire countryside can be enjoyed through a visit to Cannock Chase, designated an area of outstanding national beauty, or to the National Memorial Arboretum, the UK’s centre of Remembrance set in 150 acres of trees and gardens in national forest at Alrewas on the outskirts of Lichfield.

Shugborough House offers a step back in time, allowing you to experience an historic working estate and no visit to Staffordshire would be complete without a trip to the Potteries.

If you are looking for something more family-orientated, Drayton Manor Park has a 15 acre zoo as well as a multitude of rides including Europe’s first stand-up rollercoaster. Cadbury World and The National Sea Life Centre can be found in Birmingham City Centre and for the more active among you, a Go Ape is located at Cannock Chase. Alton Towers is further afield, 32 miles away, but has a fantastic selection of rides including Nemesis and Oblivion.
